After reading through a majority of the poems my initial reactions were that:
1.they all seemed very miserable and dark themed.
2. Some of them were about his personal observations of the outside world, especially in Dockery and son where he questions people's life decisions.
one other reoccurring theme was one of loss which seemed personal to him. it made me think that he had lost someone personal to him.
